University information National University in Yangon. Established in 1878 by the government of the British Empire as the sister university of the University of Calcutta, Rangoon College, it has the oldest history in Southeast Asia. In 1920, the name was changed to "Rangoon University" and in 1983 to "Yangon University". Until 1958, when a university was established in Mandalay, the country's second largest city, it was the only institution of higher education in the country.It is located in Kamaryut Township on the shores of Lake Inya, a little north of the city center.About 5,000 students.
