[3rd] Kobe Yamate Campus Media Library Open

[3rd] Kobe Yamate Campus Media Library Open

May, 2021

In April 2021, the library on the Kobe Yamate Campus was renewed from the previous library centered on bookshelves and reading spaces.

In addition to the conventional library, the new media library will be equipped with a learning commons, learning support room, and media support desk, and will be a place to comprehensively support the learning of all students.

This time, we asked the director of the Center for Learning Support to talk about the features of the media library and what he expects from us.

In addition, we interviewed Mr. Tsurumoto, a student representative who participated in the ceremony, and asked him how to use the media library from a student's perspective.

Kobe Yamate Campus "Expectations for the Media Library"
Director of Learning Support Center Professor Kazuhiko Nakanishi

The Kobe Yamate Campus Media Library has three areas.
I would like to express my expectations for the utilization of the characteristics of these three areas.

・Media library (library) area - a place for contemplation
When asked what the greatest invention of mankind was, the most common answer was the invention of printing technology. The printing produced countless books, which transcend time and are connected to the present. The space where human wisdom is accumulated is the so-called library (media library).Walk between the bookshelves while looking at the spines and quietly enjoy the depth of your thoughts.

・Learning Commons Area ― A place for co-learning
In the bright and open learning commons area, it is possible for students to investigate and confirm with each other based on self-study.In other words, co-learning and co-learning can be realized.Work hard and improve each other.

・Collaboration area ― A place for teaching and tea discussion
A collaboration area where each room is named with a thoughtful name.Teachers and students can freely rearrange desks and chairs to create a space where they can teach and learn from each other. Please create a "salon" where people used to talk and discuss their way of life and philosophy.

Q1 How did you feel after participating in the ceremony?

When I visited the clubroom on the same floor, it was under renovation, so I was wondering what it would look like.I was also looking at the post of the completion drawing, but when I actually saw it, I was surprised and overwhelmed to see a space that I didn't know about.
At the ceremony, President Hamana talked about the origin of the names of the 5 rooms in the collaboration area, and I learned that the facility was designed from the student's perspective.I believe that the new Kansai International University will become a new Kansai International University by receiving and using the intentions of the students.

Q2 How did you feel when you saw the renovated facilities?

The first thing that caught my eye was a space with family-style seating right next to the ceremony. When I toured the facility at the private viewing after the ceremony, I felt that it was designed to accommodate a variety of usage variations. The design and layout are carefully thought out in line with the activities of the students, and I think it will bring about changes in a positive way for new students, students moving from other campuses, and students on the Kobe Yamate Campus.

Q3 Were there any spots that seemed to be your favorites?

Everywhere seemed attractive.
In particular, the corner where the movable desks in the learning commons area can be arranged freely seems to be easy to use.It looks like it's going to be a popular spot because it looks like it's comfortable to go in and out freely.

Q4 How would you like to utilize it in the future?

It would be nice to reserve a room in the collaboration area and do group work with friends to enhance each other.
In addition, the Learning Commons corner, which I mentioned earlier, is a place where someone can come and meet you when you are alone. It looks like it's fun to play.It seems that you can use it in various ways even in the same place, and your imagination will expand.

Q5 Finally, do you have any recommendations for new students and students who have not used the service yet?

The 1nd floor of Building No. 2 has been reborn as a new creative space on the Kobe Yamate Campus. It seems to be a place of support where we can embody the image of "I want to do that, I want to do this".
You can use the collaboration area if you want to do something, the learning commons area for making friends, and the media library for absorbing knowledge.
At the newly renovated Learning Support Center and Media Library (library), acquire various skills that support student life and find pleasure.

Please check the library website (common to all three campuses) for the media library opening calendar, book search, and room reservations for the collaboration areas.
