[No.5] Associate Professor Tetsuo Maeda, Department of Tourism

May, 2021

In the fifth installment of this series, we asked Associate Professor Maeda of the Department of Tourism to talk about what he felt about the differences between high school libraries and university media libraries.Everyone is welcome to make use of the extensive facilities.

Until March, I worked in high school education for a long time. Before coming to our school, I worked as the principal of Ono Prefectural High School in Ono City. I have been working at this university since April, and every day is full of surprises in many ways. This is partly due to the difference between high school and university, and partly due to the difference in the structure of school establishment between prefectural schools and private universities. In the midst of all these surprises, today I would like to talk about my feelings about the media library as someone who has changed jobs from high school to university and started a new life.

Every high school has a facility called "library" or "library room".Of course, it depends on the school, but I think the libraries at the high schools I worked for mainly played the role of study rooms. The majority of the students who mainly use the library are third-year students who have completed their club activities and are working hard to prepare for university entrance exams. Until now, my image of the library has been that I read books and do research.

When I started working at this university, I began to visit the media library once a week, and I began to dream about the various ways in which the facility could be used.In addition to the traditional library-style media library area, the learning commons area is equipped with a 1-inch screen and movable desks to support group learning by group. A collaboration area where you can give.I strongly feel that this is a new learning space that can only be realized at a private university.

The university's media library is currently being prepared for use by the students of Kobe Yamate Girls' Junior and Senior High School. If that is realized, I would like all of you at Kobe Yamate Girls to feel the world of the media library, whose concept is completely different from that of junior high and high school libraries. I would like junior and senior high school students to feel the pride of being able to see how this is a university media library. Also, I am very much looking forward to the possibility of exchanges between junior high, high school, and university students.

The joy of knowing things you didn't know, the joy of exchanging opinions with people who think differently than you, and the joy of cooperating with your colleagues to put together your own ideas.I believe that the media library is a place that fulfills such various joys.If you are a student of our university who has not been able to make the most of it yet, or if you are a junior or senior high school student when Kobe Yamate Girls' Junior and Senior High School starts opening up, please come and visit us.We look forward to.
