About this project

The project titled “Establishing a Teaching and Learning Management System to Promote Active Learning,”developed by the Kansai University of International Studies, Shukutoku University,Hokuriku Gakuin University, and Kurashiki Sakuyo University, was adopted as one of the projects in the FY2012 Program for Promoting Inter-University Collaborative Education of the Japanese Ministry of Education,Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
In today’s rapidly changing and unpredictable social environment, the industrial and other sectors expect universities to develop human resources equipped with the ability to identify“ an issue that has no definitive answer, ”consider possible causes of the issue, come up with the best strategy possible, and take the initiative in acting to deal with it.
With increasingly diverse cohorts of students due to the universalization of higher education, many universities – small private universities in particular – are facing the issue of how to establish an education system that ensures the quality of undergraduate (bachelor’s degree) education despite their limited resources, while accepting students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
In response to these circumstances, we have developed a “project to establish a teaching and learning management system to promote active learning," aiming to develop human resources who can think and act on their own initiative and contribute to society. To this end, the four universities are working together to engage in three initiatives: (1) establishing a teaching and learning management system, (2) improving educational methods by employing high-impact practices (HIPs), and (3) developing a method to evaluate learning outcomes.
