educational mission

Hamana Gakuin Educational Corporation and Kobe Yamate Gakuen Educational Corporation have decided to merge their universities and corporations to make a new start.Taking this opportunity, while respecting the "founding spirit" that is the founding philosophy of both corporations, we have established an "educational mission" that expresses the ideal form of Hamana Yamate Gakuin as an educational institution that includes them. .

In addition, the "founding spirit" of both corporations is inherited without change. This educational mission is like an umbrella that envelops the founding spirit of each school, and shows what the new corporation wants to be in society.

Building spirit

Since its founding, Hamana Yamate Gakuin"I love the garden (Make a garden with love)"developed in the spirit of "Love" is mutual love, and it can be said that relationships with people are established only when there is mutual love and trust.

Kansai International University makes use of this spirit and "Cultivating human beings who understand the position of each person on the earth and walk together with them” is our aim.It is not just about being a person who can play an active role in the international community. The kind of person that our university seeks is someone who can share pain with people around the world and have the ability to take action to solve problems.

From this point of view, education at Kansai University of International Studies aims not only to acquire knowledge, but also to foster individuals who can play an active role as global citizens, looking broadly at the Asia-Pacific region of the 21st century.

Educational Philosophy

At our university, we embody the founding spirit of the Hamana Yamate Gakuin Educational Corporation and define the university's educational philosophy as follows.

Kansai University of International Studies is a place of learning full of intelligence that aims to nurture human beings who have a global perspective, who are full of love for humanity, who are rich in creativity and have the ability to take action.

  • A self-sufficient human being... Be strict with yourself and be a person who keeps trying
  • A person who can contribute to society... Let's be creative and proactive people
  • Be a generous citizen of the world... Let's live together with the people of the world and become human beings who can lift each other up.

To achieve the educational philosophy of Kansai University of International Studies

At our university, we are making various efforts to achieve our educational philosophy. The emphasis is on developing the ability to put what one has learned into practice by integrating learning knowledge and theory with learning through experience.

1. Be an autonomous human being

Autonomous person - It assumes a person who can take responsibility for their own actions and who can continue to grow through continuous and autonomous learning. In order to achieve this, we are building a system that allows students to set their own goals, take action, and reflect on their progress.

In April 18, the university-wide learning goal of "KUISs learning benchmark” was enacted. The contents are three items that express the educational goals of our university, "self-discipline," "contribution to society," and "spiritually rich global citizen," by linking them to specific abilities, and "problem-solving ability." and "Communication Ability".Through four years of general education and specialized education, these are set as "abilities that our students should acquire upon graduation."

In addition, in March 23, we revised the regulations of each faculty, which had already set the human resource development objectives of each faculty and department, and clarified the learning goals of each department. This makes it easier for students to set learning goals for each semester.

Furthermore, from the second semester of 22, we set up a Reflection Day.Just before the start of the spring and fall semesters, students themselves take a long, objective look back at their studies and other activities over the past six months to see what they have achieved and what they have been lacking.Based on this, the next learning goal is set and a specific approach is considered.I keep track of my achievements and goal settings in my portfolio so that I can check them at any time.

2. Be a person who can contribute to society

People who can contribute to society - There are various ways to contribute to society. What kind of contribution can we as students at university make to society?Volunteer, participate in local activities...Of course, that is also important, but the most basic thing for university students is to acquire specialized knowledge, skills, and education. Then, mobilize all the knowledge and skills you have acquired after graduating from university and use them for the benefit of society.

In universities, in order for students to acquire knowledge and skills firmly, service learning,InternshipWe have a lot of extra-curricular activities such asService-learning is an educational method that combines university education and social contribution, and links classroom knowledge and social practice.Through actual participation in social activities that respond to local needs, the purpose of learning is clarified.Furthermore, in addition to specialized knowledge, the aim is to enhance a sense of responsibility toward society, problem-solving skills, and communication skills. It is an experiential learning for the purpose of acquiring learning that leads to one's own way of life.

We are also improving our learning in the classroom.Until now, most of the general lecture classes at universities have been in a one-way style in which instructors give lectures and students listen to them and take notes. At our university, we have adopted a style of active learning in many of our lecture classes.Active learning is a teaching method devised so that students can actively participate in classes through group work and discussions. All faculty members research and practice a teaching method called active learning.

3. Be a generous citizen of the world

Enriched Global Citizens - We are citizens of the Earth.People with diverse and different cultures and ways of thinking live together on this earth. With the development of science and technology and the globalization of the economy, it will become more and more important to think about things on a global scale.Nevertheless, what are the things that we have seen and heard with our own eyes and ears so far?Isn't it just a part of the world?

At our university, as a step to interact with people around the world, global studyis being maintained.Global study is an overseas study centered on "experience" to develop human resources who can understand the diverse values of people around the world, think and act for themselves, mainly in Asia, which has a deep relationship with industry and culture. A study program inThis program specifically consists of overseas service learning, overseas field studies, and overseas internships.

Overseas service learningis the overseas version of Service Learning.By fusing university education and social contribution, students will improve their specialized knowledge and skills by actually participating in social activities that meet the needs of overseas communities. Overseas field researchIn , students plan in groups and conduct field surveys through group work with overseas partner universities on themes that they have researched in advance. After returning to Japan, a debriefing session will be held to summarize the research results, and the credits will be recognized.

Overseas internshipprovides work experience overseas in a field related to their future career while they are still in school, in order to clarify their vision for the future.Furthermore, by coming into contact with foreign languages and different cultures at the internship destination, students will deepen their understanding of the diverse people of the world and their own societies, act with an international perspective, and achieve personal growth. purpose.
