1. Graduation Accreditation Policy (Diploma Policy)

The Department of Sociology awards a bachelor's degree (academic) to those who have acquired 126 credits, fulfilled the prerequisites, and met the following requirements. These standards require students to have the ability to contribute to society at large by comprehensively utilizing the six abilities and qualities of our educational goals based on the educational mission of the Hamamatsu Yamate Gakuin School Corporation (Communication, Consideration, Commitment), based on specialized knowledge and skills in sociology and data science and a global perspective.

2.Curriculum Policy (Curriculum Policy)

In the Department of Sociology, we systematically organize the curriculum over the four years so that students can acquire the knowledge and skills set out in the "Diploma Policy for Graduation Certification," and we evaluate their progress by devising innovative teaching methods.

1) Education content

The Department of Sociology's curriculum consists of basic and specialized education courses, and is organized so that students can learn step by step from the basics to application. This will foster practical talent that combines a sociological perspective with data science skills.

Systematic organization

Subjects are numbered to clarify the priority of courses and the level of difficulty of the content, and to support gradual learning.

Practical learning

In addition to classroom learning, we place emphasis on on-site practice, such as social surveys and data utilization, and integrate theory and practice through collaborative programs with local communities and companies.

(1) Basic Education Subjects
To form a foundation for your studies at university and your life after graduation, you will study the following:
・Communication subjects
Students will learn languages ​​(English and second foreign languages), ICT skills, leadership, etc., and develop communication skills for a global society.
・Consideration subjects
With a focus on "human studies" and "SDGs and sustainability," students will consider social issues from a scientific perspective. They will also acquire knowledge and skills in data science.
・Commitment subjects
Through experiential learning both in Japan and overseas (global studies, service learning, cooperative programs), we broaden our perspective on multicultural coexistence and develop the ability to respond to social issues.

(2) Specialized Educational Subjects
Based on sociology and data science, we offer specialized learning in the following three majors:
(A) Coexistence and Society Major
We will learn about "coexistence" in Japan and other countries, and aim to solve specific problems through social research.

(a) Culture and Media Major
You will acquire knowledge and skills in disseminating information and develop your abilities as a next-generation creator.
(c) Data Science Major
We aim to develop talent who can apply large amounts of data to problem-solving by utilizing a sociological perspective and ICT skills.
・1st year
You will learn the basics of sociology, social research, and data science.
・2nd year and onwards
Courses are systematically arranged for each major, allowing students to deepen their expertise.
・Outside the classroom
Through outside-class practical courses, we provide learning that integrates theory with field experience.

2) Teaching methods

(1) Introduction of active learning
・We provide an environment where students can work together in groups and participate in discussions, regardless of nationality or cultural background, and learn independently and proactively.
・We will develop problem-finding and problem-solving skills through service learning, cooperative programs, global studies, and practical social design exercises. Students will utilize their practical experience in their next studies.

(2) Feedback and reflection
- Multiple evaluations will be conducted during and at the end of the semester, and answer sheets and reports will be returned to clarify learning objectives.
- Students will use their learning portfolios to conduct self-evaluations and reflections, and deepen their learning through interviews with their advisory professors.

(3) Education using AI and ICT
- Use generative AI in your classes to expand knowledge and ideas, and develop the ability to judge credibility and feasibility.
・We will use the LMS to support preparation and review, quizzes, report submission, and the creation of learning portfolios. Classes will be conducted face-to-face, online, or a combination of both.

(4) Planned study
・We provide a study flow chart to help students create a four-year study plan with an eye toward their future careers after graduation. We will continually check the progress of the plan and make adjustments as necessary to help students achieve their goals.

3) Educational evaluation

(1) Formative and summative evaluation
・In each subject, learning outcomes will be assessed through tests, reports and presentations.
-Formative assessments will be conducted throughout the semester to gauge students' understanding and provide supplementary lessons and feedback.
A comprehensive evaluation will be conducted at the end of the semester and grades will be assessed in a multifaceted and comprehensive manner by combining these assessments.

(2) Confirmation of achievement level through KUISs learning benchmarks
- Every six months, students will conduct a self-evaluation to see how well they have achieved the abilities and qualities set out in the diploma policy.
・Students will meet with faculty members to check their progress and set their next learning goals.

(3) Examination to confirm achievement at the end of the second year
At the end of the second year, a completion test will be conducted to assess whether students have acquired the basic skills required for taking "Graduation Research I", "Graduation Research II" and "Graduation Thesis and Production".
Those who fail will be required to retake the test and be expected to pass it.

(4) Comprehensive evaluation based on "Graduation Thesis/Production"
・The results of four years of learning will be comprehensively evaluated through the "Graduation Thesis/Project (Required)."
-Evaluation will be conducted by multiple faculty members using a common evaluation index (rubric).

3. Policy regarding acceptance of new students (admission policy)

The Department of Sociology is seeking individuals who have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as the sense of purpose and motivation necessary to receive an education based on the "Policy on Graduation Certification (Diploma Policy)" and the "Policy on the Organization and Implementation of the Educational Curriculum (Curriculum Policy)".

- Have completed a wide range of educational courses at high school.
・Have acquired Japanese language proficiency (modern Japanese language, language culture) and have acquired basic skills equivalent to or exceeding the kanji proficiency level of Level 3.
Have basic English skills (equivalent to EIKEN Grade 3) and basic mathematical skills (equivalent to Mathematics I and Mathematics A).

(2) Thinking ability, judgment ability, and expressive ability
- Ability to think logically about familiar social issues and explain the results.
・Be able to express your experiences and thoughts accurately and communicate them to others.

(3) Independence, diversity, and collaboration
- Be interested in various social phenomena and problems, and have the desire to think about their relationships and solutions.

(4) Initiatives for pre-enrollment education
- You will be able to complete the pre-enrollment education that will provide you with basic knowledge through an e-learning program.
