■ Please tell us about your current research theme (or field of specialization) and the reason why you decided to pursue this field of specialization.
Minority means few.One of my specialties is minority education.
I am from Kobe.I couldn't study at all until high school, and I wasn't even interested. When I was hanging out after graduating from high school, I discovered the joy of reading. There are many kinds of life in the world. In order to deepen such things, I decided to go to university and study cultural anthropology.Cultural anthropology involves learning about the diverse cultures of the world on the spot.Through reading, I wanted to get to know real people.
When I was an undergraduate, I was absorbed in "fieldwork," which involved going out into the field. Then I started doing fieldwork at Jimoto and met foreign children who came to Japan. They, too, weren't good at studying and were hanging around.
As I began to interact with them, I often reflected on my experiences. How painful it is to just be in the classroom without knowing what to study. What does it mean to be overwhelmed by the difficulty of communicating with others?I see.Similar to my experience. However, they have a handicap greater than mine.He came to Japan unwillingly, did not understand the language, and had no life experience. There are only things I can't do, and I'm having a hard time at school. But nobody cares. It is my own fault that I cannot study.
Since my undergraduate days, I have been participating in volunteer activities at an NPO that supports foreign children in Kobe. And I felt my helplessness.I can help you.I don't understand why the world is so unequal. Then I felt that I had to know more about the world.I went on to graduate school and began to think about “schools” for minorities. This led to questioning the "meaning of education" and the "meaning of school" in society.
■ Profile
As I mentioned earlier, I am from Kobe. After graduating from Higashinada High School, he entered Kyoto Bunkyo University after a wandering period. He graduated from Osaka University graduate school and continued working as a faculty member at Osaka University. It wasn't until I came to college that I learned to enjoy studying. And when I went out to the field, I learned that I was not the only one who was suffering from "suffering" in the world.I'm really glad that I didn't "drowse" in college.
■ Message to high school students
do you like schoolI hatedIt was very painful to go to school every day.I was also annoyed that the teacher was arrogant. It was stupid that I had to get along with my classmates and that some students were arrogant. How many children do not go to school each year and are heartbroken? In that case, I even thought, "I don't need school."
But now I have come to think that school is important. As I visited the school and conducted research, my thinking changed.
Of course, the current school is not good. There are various issues in school and education, and changing them little by little will lead to the creation of a "school that is comfortable for everyone."If that is the case, we should not discuss "school" and "education" only with those who feel that "school is fun".Even those who feel that they dislike school can study education.Delivering that voice to the school will enrich the next generation of schools.
Thinking about school and education doesn't just mean being a school teacher. We can also sociologically question the meaning of school and education in our society.Whether you like school or hate school, if you are wondering what a school is, let's think about it together.Sociology gives us a lot of weapons for that.
■ Themes that can be cooperated such as lectures and interviews
We are most often asked about education for foreigners. We also support education committees and training at schools. In addition, I have been involved in lectures and training on Japanese immigration to Brazil, multicultural coexistence, human rights education, and minority education.
