■ Please tell us about your current research theme (or field of specialization) and the reason/motivation that led you to pursue this field of specialization.
My major is American studies, and my theme is modernization theory (civilization theory). As Americanization progresses in the name of globalization, I am constantly thinking about what kind of "open world order" that allows the countries of the world to live in their own "national individuality."In that context, I have written many books on the history of English education in Japan since the Meiji era, especially on the nature of English education in the global era. Also, as part of my modernization theory, I am working on body theory and martial arts theory (I am also Shito-ryu Karate Shihan XNUMXth Dan).
Area studies is a field of study that seeks an interdisciplinary (ideally transdisciplinary) approach to the region being studied. I think that I became a researcher of America before I knew it while I was devoting myself to it.
■ Profile
Born in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1964, the year of the Tokyo Olympics. After graduating from Miki High School, I went on to study English and American Studies in the Faculty of Foreign Studies, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. In two years, I won the All Japan Student English Speech Contest, and visited the United States for the first time for the prize. After graduating from university, I worked as a general English conversation instructor at ECC Foreign Language School for a while, then went on to study at the Graduate School of Area Studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. I studied American Studies. After graduating from graduate school, I taught a uniquely systematized English reading method called "Logical Reading" as a lecturer at a university preparation school, and during that time, I published many study reference books.
After living in Kyoto for 8 years and Tokyo for 19 years, I returned to Miki in 2010.I traveled far and wide in search of great teachers, but when I saw my parents up close again, I realized that my true teacher had actually been here from the beginning.I am truly happy to be able to continue my studies and teach her in this town where my parents gave their lives, even though I had no name.
■ Message to high school students
I have loved English since I was in junior high school, and I listened to and read aloud the teacher's tape my parents bought for me over and over again until it wore out.At some point, English also came to love me, and English paved the way for me and guided me.Everyone, please try hard to do what you love.It will surely become an "umbrella" that protects you from the rain and wind of your life.I want you to take that one umbrella and graduate from university.I want to help.I sincerely hope so.
