Q1: Please tell us about your current research theme (or field of specialization) and the reason or motivation for choosing that field of study.

I have been researching the social impact of studying abroad on the themes of cross-cultural understanding and international education. The number of people who move across national borders for purposes such as studying abroad or changing jobs, as well as those who have to emigrate to other countries as refugees, continues to increase worldwide.I myself was able to change my life greatly by studying abroad, and based on my experience with many international students and international human resources, I believe that it is necessary to create a system that supports the lives and careers of these people. For example, for people who have studied or worked overseas, if there is a system that properly authenticates their qualifications and educational background, the possibilities for enriching their lives and careers will expand.Japan, like Europe, Canada, and Australia, should properly certify qualifications for foreign educational backgrounds and give consideration to foreign human resources and international students so that they can play an active role.I am researching measures to establish a system in Japan for recognizing foreign educational backgrounds and qualifications based on the principles of UNESCO (there is an international treaty called the Tokyo Convention).

Q2: Profile

After graduating from university, I worked in the welfare field, but at the age of 28, I decided to study abroad at a graduate school and study English again from scratch. She had a hard time graduating from Harvard Graduate School of Education, but I think her experience studying abroad has enriched her career and life.I hope that all students will continue to have the desire to take on challenges.

Q3: What made you glad you did this job?

Working in international education and cross-cultural understanding, I am able to connect with educators and students around the world and share various learnings.Similarly, I have had many opportunities to interact with children and young people with foreign roots in Japan as well.As an example, at a Japanese-Brazilian/Peruvian school in Hamamatsu, students from this school, Japanese students, and international students did joint work, and at the end, they all performed in chorus. The lively expressions on the students' faces and the sense of unity they shared at that time were so wonderful that I shudder when I remember them now.We hope that through study abroad and cross-cultural exchange projects, students will be able to raise their self-esteem and challenge spirit, and act with confidence.

Q4: Please give a message to high school students.

I want them to try new things while they are in high school, but I also want them to make friends all over the world, especially through studying abroad and international internships, when they enter university. I would like you to train yourself without setting limits from the beginning, saying, "I can't do it myself."Beyond that lies a life and a career connected to the world.
