■ Please tell us about your current research theme (or field of specialization) and the reason why you decided to pursue this field of specialization.
I specialize in the field of early childhood education within the sociology of education. When conducting sociological research in the fields of early childhood education and childcare, it is important to consider the impact of the environment surrounding children. How children's lives in early childhood, which greatly affect the future of children, will change due to variables that children cannot change, such as changes in society as a whole and home environment. Children's poverty. One of my research themes is the relationship between social problems faced by Japanese society, such as population expansion and the increase in the number of foreign children, and the lives of infants.
Another research theme is the problem of parents who are strongly affected by the social environment. The declining birthrate and aging population have become a social problem, but behind this is the new difficulty of child-rearing, in which it is becoming difficult to find hope in the very act of having and raising children. This theme has become my life theme through my experience of raising children and meeting parents at nurseries and kindergartens.
■ Profile
After completing a doctoral course at the Graduate School of Education and working as an assistant at a national university for only one year, I moved to Kansai and began helping with the establishment of Kansai Jogakuin Junior College (the predecessor of this university). After witnessing the opening of a junior college, I have watched the history of this university from my side, including its promotion to a four-year university, the establishment of a graduate school, and the opening of the Amagasaki campus.
When I was helping with the preparations for the opening of a junior college, I came across a document titled "The Purpose of the Establishment of Doshisha University" written by Joe Niijima.Although they may be inferior to schools established by the government in terms of the amount of funds and the completeness of their facilities, private universities are characterized by their ability to demonstrate their own character and to cultivate self-reliant people. It was written that it was, and I was deeply moved. From kindergarten to graduate school, I myself have never studied at a private school since I went to a public school.
Self-reliance and self-government are also related to the educational goals of our university.Students demonstrate their own attractiveness, live their lives well, become people who shine in a corner of society, and are able to make a living by supporting them by their side. I am more than happy.
■ Message to high school students
Japan seems to be a rich society, but it can be said that it is a society that has considerable difficulties in becoming an adult. One of the reasons for this is that it is difficult to find what you want to do in Japan, where there are few opportunities to come into contact with the real world before choosing a career path after graduating from high school.
Even in such a situation, high school students are welcome to look up various information, even if it is virtual. And if possible, try to actively participate in things that you can actually experience while in high school, such as volunteering and overseas training.I hope that you will be inspired to learn about things that touched your heart and that you were interested in.You're lucky if the field leads to a real career path, but it doesn't have to. In Japan, where social changes such as the advancement of AI (artificial intelligence) are becoming more and more intense, there is no guarantee that the jobs and places of employment that can be imagined today will remain unchanged 10 years from now.I think you should give top priority to what you want to learn.
■ Themes that can be cooperated such as lectures and interviews
Career education from early childhood, general child-rearing support, early retirement problem of childcare workers, problem of potential childcare workers, etc.
