We learned how to discuss things comfortably and build trusting relationships.

This is a class where students discuss a theme in groups or with the whole class. The purpose was not to find the right answer, but to learn the skills and behaviors necessary for communication. How can we discuss things in a pleasant manner? One method is "eye messages," which convey your opinion by using "I" as the subject, without denying the other person's opinion. Also important are "ways to reframe weaknesses as strengths," and "non-verbal communication" such as facial expressions, gaze, gestures, posture, and voice. I was able to learn how to build trusting relationships with people while having fun.

Applying psychology to crime prevention activities and building interpersonal relationships

I am in charge of preparing and running the police officer recruitment exam, and supporting successful candidates until they enter the police academy. It is rewarding to see my future colleagues overcome their anxieties and work hard on physical training and studying. At university, I mainly studied the psychology of criminal perpetrators and the factors that lead to crime. When I worked at the police box, I conducted interrogations based on the psychological state and characteristics of suspects. In the future, I would like to use psychology in crime investigations and crime prevention activities in the Public Safety Division or Criminal Affairs Division. I also feel that psychology is useful for forming good interpersonal relationships. Police work cannot be done alone, and there are many situations where we need to ask for cooperation from prefectural residents and related organizations. At Kansai International University, the faculty and staff are always there to support students, and it was an environment where I could consult with them about anything. When I took the police officer recruitment exam, there were also teachers who gave me interview guidance, which was very reassuring.
