About enrollment confirmation

Enrollment confirmation is to confirm that you are attending university. Enrollment confirmation must be carried out during semester periods (April and October).15 daysPlease come to the Center for Global Education (International Exchange Division) on your campus by the deadline and sign the enrollment confirmation book.A proxy signature by a friend or the like is not acceptable.

  • In addition, recipients of external scholarships are required to sign a confirmation of enrollment form by a specified deadline each month.

International students who do not confirm their enrollment will have their Asia Pacific Scholarships suspended and will be reported to the Immigration Bureau and Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a missing person.If the Immigration Bureau recognizes that there is a problem, the status of residence will be revoked and the person will be declared an "illegal stay" and will be forced to return to their home country.

Temporary departure/return

Before leaving Japan, be sure to fill out the "Overseas Travel Notification" and submit it to the Center for Global Education (International Exchange Division). Please come and pick up the form at the Center for Global Education (International Exchange Division).

  • In principle, students are not permitted to travel outside of Japan during classes.

Deemed re-entry

If you return to Japan within one year of leaving Japan, you do not need to obtain a re-entry permit if you present your residence card when you leave Japan.However, if you do not re-enter Japan within 1 year of your departure (if your period of stay is less than 1 year after your departure, until your period of stay expires), your status of residence will be lost and you will not be able to continue your studies in Japan. So please be careful.In the unlikely event that you leave Japan for more than one year, please apply for a re-entry permit.

when working part-time

Once you have decided on a part-time job, please fill out the "Part-time Job Report" and be sure to submit it to the Global Education Center (International Exchange Division). Please come to the Global Education Center (International Exchange Division) to pick up the form.

Permitting activities outside the status of qualification

The “Student” status of residence does not allow you to engage in remunerative activities in Japan.However, working part-time while studying abroad (excluding some occupations such as amusement business) is permitted if permission is obtained from the Minister of Justice to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted (immigration control and Article 19 of the Refugee Recognition Act).If you work part-time without obtaining permission to engage in activities other than those permitted under the status of residence previously granted, engage in prohibited work, or engage in part-time work that exceeds the time limit, you may be subject to deportation.

About long vacation period proof

If you are an international student working part-time during long vacations and need to inform your employer of the university's long vacation periods, please check Web Class and submit the "Kansai International University Long Vacation Periods (Notice)" to your employer.
If you have not yet submitted the "Part-time Job Report", please make sure to submit it to the Global Education Center before completing the issuance procedure on Web Class.
If you would like to submit a paper version, please contact the Center for Global Education.It will be handed over two days after the request.

Graduation/Completion

Returning to Japan after Graduation

If you plan to return to your home country after graduating from university, please return to your home country as soon as possible, even if your period of stay for "Student" remains.When you return to Japan, you will be asked to return your residence card at the time of immigration inspection at the airport. It is illegal to stay in Japan with a “Student” status of residence.
When returning to your home country, do not forget to do the following:

  • Procedures for canceling/moving out of an apartment
  • Suspension of electricity, gas, and water services and settlement procedures
  • Handling of oversized garbage
  • Notification of moving out
  • Withdrawal from National Health Insurance and Liquidation
  • Cancellation of bank accounts, mobile phones, and the Internet

If you plan to stay in Japan after graduation

If you want to find a job in Japan, please consult with your employer and change your visa from a "Student" visa to a visa that matches the content of your new job.
If you plan to continue job hunting after graduation, please change your "Student" visa to a "Designated Activities" visa (please do so within two weeks of graduation). The period of stay on a "Designated Activities" visa is six months and can be extended only once. To apply for a "Designated Activities" visa, you will need a letter of recommendation from Kansai University of International Studies. Please contact the Career Support Office.Documents, etc. that prove that you have been looking for a job continuously since you were in schoolto request the issuance of a letter of recommendation.
To stay in Japan after graduation, whether you are finding employment or continuing your job search, you must notify the Immigration Services Agency of your "withdrawal" (graduation, completion, withdrawal, expulsion) from the institution you were currently working in within 14 days (those who continue their studies in Japan must notify the Immigration Services Agency of their "transfer"). Notification can be made online, by mail, or in person at the Immigration Services Bureau counter. Failure to notify may result in penalties.

When taking a leave of absence or withdrawing from school

After consulting with your advisor, the Center for Global Education (International Exchange Division), etc. in advance, an interview will be held by the dean.After the interview, you will need to submit a “Request for Leave of Absence” and “Request for Withdrawal”.

According to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, if you do not continue activities related to the status of residence "Student" for more than 3 months, your status of residence may be revoked.Therefore, if an international student does not continue to study or conduct research activities for more than 3 months due to reasons such as leave of absence, unless there is a legitimate reason for staying in Japan (hospitalization, etc.), he or she must promptly leave Japan or change to another status of residence. If you leave the university, you cannot continue to stay in Japan with the status of residence of "Student".You must notify the Immigration Bureau within 14 days of leaving the university.Even if your period of stay is still valid, you must leave Japan promptly, or change your status of residence if you wish to continue staying in Japan.It is illegal to stay in Japan with a status of residence of “Student” or to engage in part-time work.
