About UMAP

UMAP is an abbreviation for University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific. It is a governmental and non-governmental organization established in 1991 with the aim of promoting student and faculty exchanges between higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. What is UMAP's student exchange program?

  • Program A (Exchange program between multiple universities in multiple countries)* Exemption from tuition fees at the host university
    A student exchange program between multiple universities in UMAP member countries/regions (UMAP participating universities), in which, in principle, up to 1 students are dispatched/accepted per semester.
    Starting in 2018, universities that have accepted two or more students will be able to use that amount as a dispatch quota from the following semester onwards.
  • Program B (Two-University Study Abroad Program)
    If you wish to send/accept students beyond the framework of Program A, study abroad programs under the agreement of both universities
  • Program C (short-term study abroad program)*Program participation fee will be collected
    This is a short-term study abroad program held by UMAP participating universities for approximately one to eight weeks, mainly from July to September, with various themes and implementation scales.
    From 2018, it is now possible to participate in Program C (short-term study abroad program).
  • Summer program(Original program invited by UMAP member countries every year)
    The program participation fee will be supported by the host country.

UMAP International Student Recruitment * Tuition fee exemption from the host university

Kansai University of International Studies is a member of UMAP.Therefore, Kansai University of International Studies students can study at UMAP member universities for six months to a year without tuition fees.If you are interested, please contact the Global Education Center for individual explanations.

Qualifications

  • You must be able to prove that you meet the English proficiency required by the university you wish to apply for.
  • Applicants must be recognized as having the academic and language skills required by this university and the foreign university to which they wish to study, as well as the willingness to study abroad and the ability to pay for tuition.
  • Approved by the president of this university after internal selection, and accepted by the university where you will study abroad
  • Must be able to obtain a study visa for the country/region to which you are traveling for the required period.

Scholarships offered by host universities (grant type)

In addition to exemption from tuition fees at the host university, there are programs in Canada and Taiwan where you may be able to receive scholarships.However, only those who meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship will receive a notice of decision from UMAP, not a recommendation system from our university.

Accreditation of earned credits

If the credits for courses acquired during the study abroad period are recognized as appropriate, they can be recognized as credits required for graduation from the university.
