[Center for Global Education] Global Study (Winter 2017 Taiwan/Taichung) Activity Report

We have received the activity report of "Global Study Taiwan (Taichung) Program".
In the first half of the program, we visited the elementary school attached to National Taichung University of Education in the morning of the second day.The principal explained about the elementary school attached to the school, and I learned that the school focuses on reading, health, and picture books. After visiting the library, we visited a 2th grade math class and a 5th grade music class. In a math class, the teacher asked the children to create a symmetrical figure using origami. In the music class, while the teacher explained the key points using enlarged sheet music slides, we all played the recorder together, and divided into parts and practiced singing, clapping, and the recorder ensemble. At the end, three children each stepped forward to present their ensemble performances, and it was clear that the children were enthusiastically working on the performance. In the afternoon, a lecture was given by a researcher from Taichung University of Education on the current status of Taiwanese aborigines' education. We actively asked questions about the current state of aboriginal education, which helped us to deepen our understanding of the research questions that we had prepared in the preliminary study.
On the third day, we visited Wampo Elementary School located in an area inhabited by indigenous people. After an introduction to the school by the principal, the children deepened their communication by interacting with the children through activities such as a tour of the adjacent kindergarten, a baseball game with the children, a campus tour by the children, teaching children's songs, and a rice cake pounding competition. From the 3th day, we will actively interact with various people.
