[Center for Global Education] Global Study II (Indonesia/2018 Summer Yogyakarta) Activity Report - With the aim of researching global disaster countermeasures and risk management required in Asia in the future! ~
From August 2018th to 8th, 18, we held a 29-day workshop in Indonesia with the aim of researching the global disaster countermeasures and risk management that will be required in Asia in the future through international comparisons of the significance and behavior of “safety and security.” This program was implemented in the ancient city of Yogyakarta and the current capital of Jakarta.
The first destination, Yogyakarta, has been hit by earthquakes and volcanic disasters many times, including the eruption of Mt. Merapi (2010) and the Central Java Earthquake (2006). Disaster recovery, disaster prevention and mitigation measures are being carried out with the support of Japan and other countries around the world.For this reason, in this program, the results and challenges of Indonesia's disaster response so far, the future disaster prevention and mitigation measures, and the way international cooperation should be We decided to study, investigate, and consider the above.
The biggest feature of this on-site training was that it was conducted mainly by group work of several people by a mixture of students from three universities.Based on the experiences and lessons learned from disasters in both Indonesia and Japan, we set research themes within the group based on related lectures and field surveys, conducted detailed surveys, and summarized the survey results through repeated discussions. .On the final day of group work, each group made presentations on their achievements and received advice from UGM and UAJY experts.
Through these training activities, exchanges between students across countries and fields were actively carried out, and not only understanding in the field of disaster prevention and mitigation, but also cross-cultural understanding and improvement in communication skills in English were recognized.
This time, 11 interdisciplinary students from the Department of Education and Welfare, the Department of Psychology, the Department of Business Administration, and the Department of Nursing, who are interested in disaster prevention and mitigation, participated in this program from our university. contributed to the research and discussion.
Afterwards, they moved to Jakarta to learn more about the current state of Japan's international cooperation in the field of disaster prevention and mitigation at the JICA Indonesia office. I also learned about issues in business development in Japan.
