From August 2018th to 8th, 20, I traveled to Tacloban City in the Eastern Visayas region and Metro Manila, Philippines, and conducted a survey on the reconstruction situation after Super Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Philippines in 30.

Although it was cooler than Japan's intense heat, the participants visited the city halls of Tanauan City and Paro City in the scorching heat, and received direct explanations from the mayors on the state of disaster recovery. We also visited residential areas and interviewed local residents about changes in their lives after the typhoon. In addition, the recovery of economic activities is particularly important in disaster recovery, and I received information from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on this point. In general, it seems that reconstruction is progressing and the provision of temporary housing is progressing. was also asked.Participating students actively asked questions and deepened their understanding of each group's interests related to these points.
After moving to Manila, I visited the University of the Philippines Diliman. In particular, the Faculty of Public Administration participated in a symposium and received reports from researchers on the recovery from major disasters in Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.Based on this content, I participated in a lecture by Dr. Jose O. Tiusonco II and interacted with local students.Regarding the differences between the Philippines and Japan, we exchanged a wide range of opinions, not only in disaster recovery, but also in lifestyle culture and recent trends.

Based on the experience and knowledge gained from my previous research, I visited international organizations such as UNDP (United Nations Development Program), IoM (International Organization for Migration), and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) to understand the role of international organizations in disaster recovery. We received an explanation about the contribution of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.Even though international organizations are in a position to support reconstruction, they are not in a position to lead it.Students also actively asked questions related to these.
It was a trip that reminded us that although the damage caused by disasters varies from country to country, there are similar interests in the post-disaster recovery process. In the future reconstruction of the Philippines, it is expected that creative reconstruction based on sustainable development will take shape.
