[Faculty of Psychology] "Psychological Counseling and Dreams"

There is a picture book titled "What is a dream?"I came across this picture book when I was in the third grade of elementary school. And it made a strong impression on me.

First of all, I was surprised that it deals with dreams.Until then, I often looked at books like encyclopedias.Starting with encyclopedias of insects, encyclopedias of plants, and encyclopedias of animals, I was interested in various things that surrounded me, such as dinosaurs, vehicles, mountains, seas, stones, stars, and the universe.

All children love picture books.Even now, when I go to a bookstore, there are many new picture books lined up in the children's book corner.
However, this book dealing with dreams was different from a picture book.Like a pictorial book about insects, animals, plants, the sea, the stars, and the universe, this book is about dreams. But it's different from a picture book. Why not.It was both strange and shocking.
It was also a discovery that "I can think about dreams!"Of course, I was still dreaming, and I knew what the dreams in this book were about. But at that time, I was seriously afraid of ghosts, so I didn't have the distinction between dreams and reality as I do now as an adult. It seems that he was alive.

Under such circumstances, the stance of this book, which asks, "What is a dream?"Both the picture on the cover and the picture inside were mysterious pictures that were perfect for the theme of dreams. If you put it in words, is it a feeling of "What's this!"?

Now, when I work as a psychological counselor, I sometimes ask people to tell me about the dreams they have when they are asleep.
Dreams are very useful in understanding the mind.I now think that this is probably because the events we call "dreams" and the events we call "mind" are very similar.

In psychology, the content of the mind is not only what is conscious, but also what is not conscious, which is called the unconscious.
And dreams are considered messages from the unconscious. "I'm going to XX's concert next time. The last time I went was really good. XX was the best." Please don't talk to me anymore."
In fact, it is possible that the experience of "I" that everyone experiences in everyday life is actually a completely different experience.Dreams tell us little by little about such possibilities. However, in many cases, the dreams you see are often experienced with "What the hell is this!" or are forgotten.
