On June 1, 7 first-year students of the Department of Human Psychology, Faculty of Human Sciences, who are taking part in a service-learning program with the theme of "learning support and exchange promotion for foreign children and students" learning through community contribution activities. On Saturday, we had an exchange activity with 6 foreign children living in Miki City.In this activity, you will learn how to communicate in easy-to-understand Japanese through hands-on experience, and think about how to communicate based on the cultural and religious backgrounds of various countries.
Participating children from Syria, the Philippines, Brazil, etc. are enrolled in elementary schools in Miki City.On this day, with the cooperation of the Miki City International Exchange Association, under the guidance of Mr. Uozumi, an adviser to the Miki Industrial Cooperative Association, the pair worked on making bookmarks using a plane.
After making the bookmarks, we enjoyed cooking with the takoyaki maker.Ingredients are selected with consideration for ingredients that cannot be eaten due to religious or cultural reasons. At the end, everyone sat down and introduced their country's pre-meal greetings, saying "Itadakimasu!"
While reflecting on the "realizations" they felt during their first exchange activities with foreign children, the students plan and prepare programs for learning support and exchange with children during the summer vacation.
The scene of the day was published in Kobe Shimbun Miki edition (September 6 morning edition).
