Kansai University of International Studies
President Atsushi Hamana
Thank you to all the students for their cooperation in the "Student Situation Survey" regarding the spread of COVID-XNUMX.
In response to the government's decision to continue the "state of emergency" until the end of May, this survey will determine student support measures at the university after understanding the "problems" of students in terms of learning and living. We set the deadline on May 5th to implement it as soon as possible, but the fact that 5% of the respondents responded in a short period of time shows that we are facing an unprecedented situation. I accepted it as a reflection of.
Fortunately, as of today, the number of students infected has remained zero, but on the other hand, some students are facing financial difficulties due to living expenses such as cancellation of part-time jobs and payment of boarding fees. Furthermore, I was able to understand the actual situation that they are struggling to respond to remote classes in the ICT environment.
There is still no prospect of the end of the corona infectious disease, and it is beginning to be said that humanity needs to "coexist with corona".I expect that the current crisis will undoubtedly lead to dramatic changes in the nature of society, such as the dramatic progress in the use of IT worldwide, and the rapid progress in the use of ICT in educational activities, along with telework. increase.
Based on the results of this survey, the university will use the results of this survey to review the trends and content of government and local government support measures, which are changing and expanding on a daily basis, and the various study support systems of the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). With this in mind, we are urgently considering new support measures for the university, taking into account the actual situation of students, prioritizing the support and guaranteeing the continuation of learning for students in more difficult situations. We are aiming to have it implemented by mid-May.
In response to the current situation, which can be called a national crisis, our university has been preparing for the implementation of distance learning from an early stage ahead of other universities, and from April 4, almost all classes will start remotely. The faculty and staff are working together to provide the best possible education, even if it is in the middle of nowhere. In addition to improvements, we are discovering new value and possibilities for distance learning.
At this time, we have no choice but to continue the ban on entering the campus until the end of May, but our policy of "providing the maximum possible education and learning support" will not change.Borrowing of books from the media library will resume on May 5th (details will be posted on the website on the 5th, so please refer to it). As I said in my message to you on May 11st, if you have any concerns or problems, please do not hesitate to contact your advisor or consultation desk.
Students, please continue to take care of your health and continue your studies.
At the same time, I would like to ask parents and guardians for their continued support for the efforts of our students.
