[Faculty of Psychology] "What is the difference between a legal instructor and a legal technical officer?"

Many of those who opened this column may have heard the terms “legal instructor” and “legal technical officer”.However, I think that the degree of recognition in society is lower than that of other civil servants such as police officers and judges.

For example, if you go out on the street, you may see police officers patrolling the streets, and ordinary people can observe the trials of judges, so you can see their work.So what about law instructors and law technicians?

Many legal instructors face juvenile delinquents and criminals every day in correctional institutions such as juvenile training schools and prisons surrounded by walls and fences, so It's getting more and more to get on the consultation), but it's hard to see how it works.

This is a long introduction, but for this reason, I think that legal instructors and legal technical officers are not well known and are prone to misunderstandings.I will briefly introduce the contents of each work.

First, legal instructors have specialized knowledge and a wide range of perspectives in psychology, sociology, pedagogy, and welfare. It is a professional job that performs

For example, we hold classes for juveniles to think about their relationships with their families, organize events such as sports festivals held in juvenile training schools and prisons (of course, the main characters are juveniles and prisoners), I gather inmates who have been in prison and do group work.
The ability to handle a group, flexibility, and the richness of humanity to move the hearts of juvenile delinquents are required.

On the other hand, legal technical officials are a general term for professionals working in the Ministry of Justice, and include those with specialized knowledge and skills in specific fields, and those with professional qualifications such as doctors and nurses.Among them, legal technical officers who specialize in psychology use their specialized knowledge and skills in psychology to analyze why juvenile delinquents and criminals commit criminal acts, and to provide the necessary education and guidance policies for them. In addition, I provide counseling to inmates and delinquent juveniles so that they can live well in the facility.

Specifically, I interview boys and conduct psychological tests to understand their intelligence, personality, and way of thinking, and summarize the results in documents. In addition, we regularly interview prisoners who express dissatisfaction with prison life and provide support so that they can lead a positive life in prison.
In addition to knowledge and skills related to psychology, it is necessary to have an inquisitive mind, calmness, and communication skills to collaborate with multiple professions.

To make it easier to imagine, to put it very roughly, the legal instructor plays a role like a school teacher, and the legal technical officer plays a role like a counselor.

Both are national civil servants working in juvenile training schools, juvenile classification homes, and prisons all over the country. These two professionals have different areas of expertise, but they have the same goal of helping juvenile delinquents and prisoners in front of them lead better lives. increase.

Dealing with juveniles and inmates is not easy. That is why I believe that the role of legal instructors and legal technical officers with specialized knowledge and skills is significant.I hope that you will take an interest in the importance of the existence of legal instructors and legal technical officers who support the safety and security of society behind the scenes.
