<Pre-learning>
In the first class, we conducted self-introductions and an orientation for the program.After that, we asked the president of the language school NILS about the situation in the Philippines due to the corona vortex.

<Class preparation>

Each group was divided into the following lesson themes.
・Japanese food culture
・Japanese modern culture
・Beginner Japanese

As a pre-work assignment, each group created a lesson plan.In preparation for the class, I mainly connected with the local teacher via zoom, worked out the class structure, and created an English script.After that, we practiced giving classes in English and actually gave mock classes in English.

<Lesson practice>

・Food culture team
We taught about Japanese sweets and table manners, including a quiz.Various ideas were incorporated, such as using real Japanese sweets in class.Many Filipinos have a sweet tooth, so I thought I'd definitely give it a try someday.

・Modern Culture Team
I taught Japanese animation culture and music culture using videos.In the music class, I taught about traditional Japanese musical instruments, and introduced the Wagakki Band, which incorporates traditional Japanese musical instruments into modern music.

・Japanese team
While playing games, we taught basic Japanese such as "how to count numbers" and "greetings". Many of the students said that they knew "hello" and "thank you", but that they had never heard of "good night" and "itadakimasu".

<Feedback after class>

After each of the two classes, our Japanese staff and local teachers gave us feedback. During the first 2 minutes or so of the first class, many of the members were very nervous, but by the second time, I was impressed by the fact that many of them were not afraid to speak English and were lively in class. It was a target.

I will also quote some feedback from NILS teachers after the second class.

“Everyone has improved so much since last week! It was nice to have a two-way interaction with the students. If you want to be a teacher, remember to enjoy what you do! While having fun, don't forget to learn!"

Future plans: The 2020 students have completed two classes in English with great success. It is time to prepare.
