[Tourism Department] Find ancient times in shrine architecture!

Have you ever seen a shrine architecture?

I think that many people answered "yes", but is that really the case?

I think there are opportunities to visit shrines when traveling or during New Year's visits. How are you all doing at that time?Have you ever gone through a torii, approached a shrine building, put in a coin, paid your respects, and then left?

In fact, the building you are looking at at this time is often called the 'worship hall', and if you only see this, you will have left without seeing the 'main hall', which is the center of shrine architecture. If you want to see the main hall, you have to go around from the side of the worship hall to see the building behind it.

With that in mind, there must be many people who have never seen the main shrine.

The building of the main hall of this shrine is almost complete in the form that exists today in the Heian period. In addition, there are parts of the main hall building that are thought to have inherited the ancient style that predates the introduction of Buddhism in the Kofun period.

Yes, you can find ancient architecture in tourist spots and familiar shrine architecture!

By reviewing not only shrine architecture but also local tourism resources from a different perspective than before, you will increase the enjoyment of your trip. You may find new sightseeing from there.

By the way, I will talk about where ancient times can be found in shrine architecture in the “Architectural and Cultural History (XNUMX)” class at this university.
