[Faculty of Education] Global Study 1 (Brazil/Summer 2021) Activity Report

In August 2021, in the Global Study I (Brazil/Summer 8) program, we were planning to visit the NPO Kansai Brazilian Community CBK (Kobe City), but this time we decided to study through zoom under the emergency declaration. It has become a flow.

In the pre-learning, which is the preparatory stage for exchanges on Zoom, based on the history of immigration and immigration between Japan and Brazil, we will study community education in Brazil and generational disparities in the awareness of Japanese-Brazilians through literature, and from the perspective of cross-cultural understanding. We had a discussion about how multicultural coexistence should be.

In terms of exchanges via Zoom, specifically, we received lectures on the history of migration from Japan to Brazil, exhibitions at the migration center, explanations of activities related to international art exchange, and a Portuguese language course.Discrimination and prejudice in the workplace when Brazilians of Japanese descent came to Japan from Brazil, and on the contrary, comments from people who are active overseas from Japan and people who have moved from Japan to Brazil. By providing a place for students to actively ask questions and express their impressions by watching videos and slides such as these, students can feel the real thrill of touching on live experiences. It was a precious opportunity.

After the state of emergency is lifted, I will participate in the learning support class for children with Brazilian roots, which is always held on Saturdays, and learn about language support for children. We are planning to carry out learning support activities through the introduction of Japanese culture regarding events such as food culture, festivals, and moon viewing.

In the future, I hope that the students will develop opportunities for mutual exchange with a sense of sensibility, based on their understanding of the good points and differences between the cultures of both Brazil and Japan.
