Recently, it has been difficult to travel overseas due to the coronavirus pandemic, but at Kansai University of International Studies, we are actively engaging in online exchanges with overseas partner universities during class time.Today, I would like to introduce a Chinese class that I am in charge of as one such class.
In the Chinese class, we connect with students from the Japanese Department of Shandong University of Foreign Languages and Technology in Shandong Province, China every week via zoom, and introduce each other's cultures in Chinese and Japanese.Of course, you will study basic grammar, pronunciation, listening and writing in class, but practice is the most important thing in language class.Therefore, this kind of zoom exchange is very effective in providing an opportunity to immediately try the vocabulary expressions you have learned with native speakers.
Also, since language is deeply connected to culture, we have the opportunity to learn about each other's cultures through zoom exchanges.For example, when a Chinese student at Shandong University of Foreign Languages and Technology introduced us to school life in Japanese, we found that unlike Japanese students who commute from outside the university, the majority of Chinese university students live in dormitories on campus. and I noticed that I eat three meals at the school cafeteria.
And the biggest attraction of zoom exchange is that it is a great encouragement for each other's learning.The Chinese photo below is a photo of people from Shandong University of Foreign Languages and Technology who are happy to introduce exchanges with our university on the school's website.On the other hand, our students are also more motivated to learn the language by being able to interact directly with native speakers on a regular basis.
