One of the experiential learning programs that characterize learning at our university is a subject called "service learning."
This means that students will deepen their own learning and acquire the ability to actively contribute to society by participating in community contribution activities autonomously and proactively and being actively involved in society. is intended for
In this year's Tourism Department, as one of the service learning classes, students are assisting leaders in a local Boy Scout group.Actually, I'm the one who writes this column.
In the activity the other day, the Boy Scouts held a request from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology last year for children who had fewer opportunities to experience nature due to the corona crisis. Students participated in the "Let's Play with the Boy Scouts! Exciting Nature Experience Play" initiative as assistant leaders.
While paying attention to the safety of regular children and Scouts during the activities, the students actively talk to the children, participate in games together, etc., and assist the leader to support the operation of the activity. gave meFurthermore, after the activities of nature experience play, they actively participated in cleaning activities in local parks that Boy Scouts are doing as voluntary activities.
[Voices of students who participated in the activity]
I participated in the activity of "Let's play with Boy Scouts! Exciting Nature Experience Play".
I actively participated in the activities by picking up acorns and playing games with the children. In addition, I was able to talk not only with the children, but also with their parents, and I was able to hear stories about the area where I am working and the stories of the children.
Since I entered university, I haven't had a chance to interact with nature and children, so it was a good experience.I would like to actively participate in Boy Scout activities in the future.
[Waka Yamada, XNUMXst year, Department of Tourism]
I had a thought when I accompanied the Boy Scouts on their experience hike.It is the importance of community interaction and the importance of playing in nature.
Compared to the past, I think there are fewer opportunities for regional exchanges. However, this Boy Scout initiative also provides a place for interaction, so I am able to enjoy working on it.In addition, while the time spent at home has increased due to the influence of the new corona infection, this boy scout is thoroughly implementing infection control measures when working. Therefore, I can work with my children with peace of mind, and I can experience things that I can not experience in my daily life, using nature as a stage. And I learned the importance of having fun again from the children.I appreciate it very much.
Boy Scout activities will continue in the future, so I would like to continue to devote myself to doing my best.
