[Faculty of Sociology] Femininely wear a skirt for job hunting -Gender (XNUMX) in "#Dictionary of Nonsense"-

Do you know the book "I want you to go out of print as soon as possible #wordless dictionary"?

"Dagen" is a coined word that refers to remarks born from stereotypes (= fixed ideas and unconscious beliefs). On November 2020, 11, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun made the following call in its paper.
"Just as there are 'famous sayings' that hurt your heart, there are also 'bad words' that break your heart. Please add "# Dictionary of Bad Words" and tweet about episodes related to bad words.I will publish what I have compiled with the aim of being out of print.”

As soon as we started recruiting, about 1200 posts were gathered. What particularly stood out were the remarks such as "unfeminine" and "feminine".In sociology, the idea of how women and men should be, behave, and look〈Gender norms〉called.as a side note<gender>IsSocially and Culturally Created Gender Differences

In June 2021, "I want you to go out of print as soon as possible #a dictionary of nonsense" introduces more than 6 nonsense, mainly related to gender and gender differences. Here, let's take an example of "job-hunting fashion" that is familiar to college students.

"Wear a feminine skirt for job hunting" is a nonsense!

Seminar students asked me, "Is it disadvantageous to wear a pantsuit for job hunting?"RecommendedI may be consulted such as "I was set up, but...".In conclusion, there is no grounded data that pants are disadvantageous. It doesn't matter if you wear pants or a skirt, as long as it suits the person and you can wear it well.

In the early 1990s, the general image was that pants were an item that emphasized functionality, and that they were not suitable for places where clothes were the focus of attention. Some companies have even banned pants-style clothing for women in the company. In the latter half of the 90's, along with the lengthening of job hunting, a three-piece set consisting of a skirt suit and pants appeared. In the 3s, pantsuits established themselves as job-hunting fashion and permeated society.Recently, there has been a trend to allow women to wear their own clothes, hairstyles, and make-up without being bound by traditional femininity.

Despite this, why do so many students struggle with whether to wear pants or skirts? This is because the stereotype that "women's full dress = skirt" remains. It's not always the case that the company where you took the recruitment test doesn't have an old-fashioned interviewer. It is not unreasonable for job-hunting students to think, “Are skirts safe?”

There is an aspect that "bad words" are created by the gap between "common sense" and "values" that each of us has.
Especially between those who live with old values and those who live sensitively to the new reality, it can be said that it is easy to generate nonsense.
There are a wide variety of "bad words", and they exist in every scene of everyday life, such as at home, at school, and at work. There is a method of "learning from nonsense" as a way not to say nonsense and not to be misled by nonsense.Think about why you felt that remark was nonsense, and think about the background that made the person say that nonsense. In addition, it is also important to look back and see if you have said the same nonsense to someone else.

In my next column, I will also introduce some nonsense about <gender>.Let's work together to create a society where everyone is not bound by gender and where each person's individuality is respected.
