In recent years, tourist town development that utilizes local historical resources has been attracting attention.
There are many historical and cultural heritage sites such as historical buildings, bridges, and dams around the Ashiya River. The cultural landscape of the Ashiya River Basin, including these, was designated as a cultural property (monument) by Ashiya City in 2012.In the Ashiya River basin, there were many watermills for polishing sake rice from Nadagogo from the Edo period to the Meiji period. For this reason, the cultural landscape of the Ashiya River is also a constituent cultural property of the Hanshin Inter-Japan Heritage. In order to protect this cultural landscape, the area around the Ashiya River has been designated as the Ashiya River Special Landscape Area, and various rules have been established for construction and greening.
In our “Architectural Cultural History (XNUMX)” class, we conducted fieldwork around the cultural landscape of the Ashiya River and the historical buildings that make up it.Experience the historical resources and value of the Ashiya area by visiting the Former Yamamura House (now the Yodoko Guest House), which was designed by the world-famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Tekisui Museum, the Ashiya Buddhist Center, and the Ashiya Civic Center. By learning about the world, we searched for clues to think about new tourism that utilizes them.
Let's think about tourism from the point of knowing the historical resources and their value of the local area.
By the way, the Ashiya Civic Center was designed by an architectural design office where I used to work, and I also assisted in the registration of the Ashiya Buddhist Hall as a nationally registered tangible cultural property.
