On August 2013, 8, the brass band club won the silver prize at the Hyogo prefecture tournament of the All Japan Brass Band Competition (at Gonoon Hall, Sanda City).
The brass band club of our university is a new group established as a strengthening club in 2011, and we practice hard under the guidance of professional musicians every day. This year, we added a new member in April, and have been working on improving our performance techniques and creating a rich sound.
The pieces featured in the competition were the set piece II "Polonaise and Aria -For Brass Band-" (composed by Hideki Miyashita) and the free piece "From the Opera 'Cavalleria Rusticana'" (composed by P. Mascagni, arranged by Masanori Taruya). Both songs are symphonic and require a rich sound.
On the day of the event, although everyone was nervous, they all worked together to give a solid performance, and were able to receive high praise from the judges for their "beautiful sound."
We would like to introduce the impressions of Deputy Director Kihara (third-year student of the Department of Psychology), who attended the performance as an alto saxophonist.
I joined the club in its first year, and the number of members was small, so participating in a competition was a dream come true. Last year, my second year, I was able to join the juniors for the first time and participate in the competition, but due to the influence of the new coronavirus, I felt frustrated that everyone could not step on the stage.
And this year, more juniors joined the club, and thanks to the support of the university, the supporters' association, and the alumni association, and the enthusiastic guidance of the trainers, I was able to participate in the competition safely and give my best. I was able to play.As a result of the judging, I was honestly happy that I received a higher silver award than last year.
However, on the other hand, instead of being satisfied with this result, there is also the feeling that 'I finally made it to the starting line.'At the moment, the club is in its infancy and we have various problems and worries, but through this competition, I realized that the club can still grow by supporting each other and coming together as one.
Looking back on this experience, I would like to support the juniors who will play a central role in the performance and club management.
