The Department of Tourism is collaborating with Minami-Awaji City Hall and local tourism businesses to revitalize the tourism region. During our field activities on September 9th, we held meetings about local event planning and conducted research to create experiential programs.

First, he visited the city hall, and in front of the members of the Commerce, Industry and Tourism Division, the CEO of Uzunokuni Minami-Awaji Co., Ltd., and the Coca-Cola Japan Co., Ltd., he talked about an event project that is currently being planned to tackle the local garbage problem from a new perspective. We exchanged opinions on the following. We were able to receive an explanation from the Coca-Cola Company of Japan about the company's sustainability activities, as well as valuable advice on planning events in collaboration with local communities and companies. We will work with local people to prepare for the event in November!

In the afternoon, we visited Kanayama Seimen, the head of the Awaji Hand-rolled Somen Cooperative Association, and heard about the somen making that has been going on since the Edo period in the Fukura district of Minami-Awaji City.I was able to understand the hard work and thoughts behind the somen that I eat everyday, such as the work process that starts in the middle of the night and the trick to stretching the noodles into long, thin pieces. On the other hand, as a business, we are facing various issues such as decreasing demand and problems with successors, and it is necessary to make efforts and ingenuity to pass on this as a part of traditional culture.

Finally, we took a commemorative photo with somen noodles that we received as souvenirs. We will do our best to create a tourist experience program that can convey the charm of Minami-Awaji's hand-stretched somen!
