The award is given every two years to one author and one artist who have contributed the most to the world of children's books.Due to the high standards of selection, it is called the Nobel Prize for children's literature. As there were no Japanese among the judges, the text was translated into various languages in addition to English, and was read in the native language of the ten foreign judges. The reasons for the award are that he is ``full of kindness and deep respect for nature and living things'' and ``sees the world as a relationship between a variety of different levels.''
Through Nahoko Uehashi's story of courage and love, you can find hope for thinking about a world that is constantly plagued by conflict.
