Department of Global Communication Column
[G Comic Department] We held a debriefing session for overseas students.
Many students in the Department of Global Communication have the experience of studying abroad, and we provide opportunities for them to pass on that experience to their juniors who aspire to study abroad in the future. Today we will talk about Mr. Arita, who studied abroad in Vietnam last fall. The first graders listened intently.
This is a summary of the debriefing session.

Q① In which country and at which university did you participate in global research?
A① I studied abroad for one semester at Da Nang University in Vietnam in the fall of 2023.
Q② What kind of subjects did you take there? Please also tell us what you found particularly difficult or what you learned.
A② I was particularly impressed by the presentation class.
Particularly difficult was the fact that I had to clearly state the basis for my problems and opinions before creating presentation materials. My teacher repeatedly told me that presentations are ``just like cooking'' and that ``strategy with the audience is important.''
In my communication class, I had a hard time summarizing my opinion in a ``immediate and concise'' manner. At the same time, I learned the importance of adjusting the way I speak and use my body language to suit the situation, and giving presentations with my whole body.
Q③What is the most memorable thing about your off-campus activities?
A③ At an invitation from my university, I participated in a YouTube video shoot of banh mi and seafood dishes in Da Nang with Helen's Recipes (a YouTuber who introduces Vietnamese cuisine with 63 subscribers).
Q④ What challenges did you face during your global research, and how did you overcome them?
A④I lost confidence in my English at first because the English proficiency of those around me was high, but I was able to overcome the difficulty by not giving up and communicating in my own words.
Q⑤ How did you grow from your global research experience?
A⑤I think I gained the ability to actively participate in everything and take on challenges. After gaining that mindset, I was able to work with many people, including filming for YouTube and helping set up debate tournaments. Also, through this study abroad experience, I became more confident in my own ideas and ideas.
