[Faculty of Education] Carrying on the hopes of our predecessors

At our university, we have classes called "seminars" in which students and their supervisors (advisors) work together to solve problems.3sophomores arePBL(Problem-based learning) we are working on.

"PBLIn this program, the students worked together to 1) identify the problem (they want to preserve sustainable resources and communicate to children), 2) set a hypothesis (they want to carry on the thoughts of their senior seminar students and instill in children a sense of caring for the ocean), 3) devise a solution (they worked with the Kobe Coast Guard to repair a mural to prevent marine pollution and get people interested by seeing it), 4) put the solution into practice (they reported on the event), and 5) reflect on the project. Throughout the activity, the students researched and acquired the necessary knowledge and skills.2We took on this activity, inheriting the thoughts of our predecessors who participated in the renovation several years ago.

The usual seminar is mainly active in the main initiative for the graduation thesis.this time(5/31-6/7) is a social contribution activity held on Suma Beach.

We,5Month31Day and6Month7Of the day2Over the course of 10 days, the Japan Coast Guard40We learned about various things related to marine pollution by working with Mr. Omachi, who served as the head of the Japan Coast Guard for 2015, and current Japan Coast Guard officials at Suma Beach in Kobe. The activities included learning about the marine plastic problem, the story "The Great Adventure of Marine Turtles" written by Mr. Omachi and published by the Japan Coast Guard Association, and the current state of marine pollution in the seas near Japan. In addition, in order to cultivate a love for the blue sea, we helped renovate the prefabricated art in the changing rooms and toilets, which has the Japan Coast Guard's slogan "Let's leave the blue sea for the future." During the activities, we received comments such as "We were able to do activities that we don't usually get to experience," and "We want to tell children about the environmental problems of the sea." It was a valuable experience for us, as we gained various realizations. We were also greeted by prefecture residents passing by Suma Beach, which made us feel that it was worthwhile. We reflected that we would like to work with Mr. Omachi not only on this renovation, but also on reading the picture book "The Great Adventure of Marine Turtles" to ensure that the blue sea will be preserved for our next generation and the generation after that.

Of course, the regular classes on writing graduation thesis are important, but through our reflection we have come to realise once again that activities outside of university are also meaningful.
