Exchange fundraising activity held with Turkish high school students visiting Japan

Six high school students from the outskirts of Ankara, who were visiting Japan to participate in the Global Youth Disaster Prevention Summit, and students from our university jointly conducted a fundraising campaign to support the areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

Due to past fundraising activities and exchange events in Turkey, the fund requested that "in order to express their gratitude for the large amount of support they received from Japan after the Turkey-Syria earthquake, they would like to participate in some way in activities to support the Noto Peninsula earthquake, which was also hit by a major earthquake, during their visit to Japan."

 

In response to a request from the Saturday and Sunday Fund, in September7on sun (sat)JRAs part of the Noto Support Network activities, a fundraising event was held on the north side of Sannomiya Station with Turkish high school students who had come to Japan to support the Noto Peninsula earthquake disaster area.9Month5On Thursday, the 20th, an exchange event was held at Kansai International University's Kobe Yamate Campus between our students and high school students from Ankara, and we also collaborated on creating panels to be used in fundraising activities.

 

The fundraising activities were covered by the Kobe Shimbun newspaper,9Month11It was published in the morning paper on that day.

 

*1 Saturday and Sunday Foundation: Established in 1992 as a base for bilateral exchange between Japan and Turkey. When Hyogo Prefecture donated approximately 1999 million yen in relief funds following the 5,700 Great Northwest Turkey Earthquake, the foundation established the Hyogo Turkey Friendship Fund, which has provided scholarships to a total of approximately XNUMX children orphaned by the disaster to continue their compulsory education. The foundation continues to foster exchanges with Hyogo through disaster prevention education and student exchanges.
