Hamana Yamate Gakuin 100th Anniversary Symposium Held with the Theme "Developing Global Human Resources"
2024Years10Month12Saturday, Hamana Yamate Academy Establishment100To commemorate the anniversary, a symposium on the theme of "Developing Global Human Resources" was held at the Kansai International University Kobe Yamate Campus, where lively discussions took place.
At the beginning, Chairman Atsushi Hamana gave a speech in which he100He touched on the fact that we are now in the 2020s and spoke about the points he took into consideration when deciding on the theme of this symposium. He emphasized the importance of linking the values that Hamana Yamate Gakuin has cultivated thus far with the type of talent that will be required in the coming era, and gave deep thought to its philosophy, its mission of sending out talent into today's global society, and the environment required for this, before explaining the background to his selection of the theme for this symposium.
The keynote speech by Professor Emeritus Takehiko Kariya of Oxford University, entitled "How do we develop global talent?", began with a Q&A session with the audience on the definition of global talent. He introduced the transition from internationalization (organizations) to global talent (individuals), the impact of economic globalization on education, and past examples. He also mentioned the reasons why Japan is questioned about developing global talent, and the gap between the government's definition and policy evaluation. In addition, because the definition of global talent itself is very abstract, he emphasized the need for a more practical approach and concrete education based on inductive thinking in order to clarify its contours. He also mentioned the importance of re-evaluating the purpose of education and providing education based on that. At the end of the lecture, there was a Q&A session with the audience, and Kariya was able to fully share his experience and knowledge.
The following panel discussion featured Kenji Itani, chairman of the Kobe Economic Association,JICAThe panelists included Kansai Director Kimura Izuru, Kobe City Deputy Mayor Kuroda Keiko, former New York Bureau Chief of Kyodo News Watanabe Yosuke, and ICU alumnus Igarashi Hajime. Following Kariya's keynote speech, lively discussions were held on a wide range of topics, including Japan's role in global society, the potential of Kobe as an international city, and how global human resources can be developed through industry-government-academia collaboration. The panel discussion provided deep insight into the current state and challenges of global human resource development, as well as prospects for the future.
The number of visitors on the day was approximately 10,000, including both in person and online.260The post-event survey included comments such as, "It was a good opportunity to rethink the definition of global talent," "As an educator, I was able to get a glimpse of the direction of global talent development. I want to put this to use in the field," andAI,ICTMany specific comments were received, such as, "I realized the importance and necessity of human resource development in the midst of rapid technological development." Our university will utilize the knowledge gained at this symposium to continue new initiatives for global human resource development more than ever before. We will strive to provide more practical education.
