What made you decide to volunteer at the child-rearing support center "Donuts"?

Tanaka:

I wanted to make good use of my free time!

Tomitsuru:

I was in my fourth year and had finished my internship so I no longer had many opportunities to work with children, but when my teacher told me about this volunteer opportunity I thought I might take part.

Mr. Horie:

I was invited by a friend, and as I have a strong interest in children, I thought it would be a good opportunity to participate.

What did you do at the child-rearing support center "Donuts"?

Horie: This activity places great importance on interaction between children and their parents, so we did songs and hand games that the children could enjoy.

Having participated, are there any memorable moments such as fun or happy moments?

Tomitsuru:

I enjoyed everything, but there were two things that made the biggest impression on me!

Firstly, the children were initially very clingy to their mum and dad and wouldn't let go, and were nervous because it was their first time here, but as they played hand games and had picture books read to them, they started to have fun and their smiles came out, which made me happy.

The second reason is that many people from the neighborhood around my university come to Donuts, and sometimes parents will call out to me on the way home from school, which made me happy to think that I might have become famous enough to be called out to!

Was there anything difficult during your activities?

Tanaka:

Both the children and the mothers were nervous and I was worried that they were all acting individually, so I kept in mind that it would be great if they could all form a circle.

Do you feel that you have grown in any way through your volunteer work so far?

Tomitsuru:

I have had several volunteer experiences from my first to fourth years of high school.

Up until high school, I mostly spent my time in an environment prepared for me by my teachers, but as I became a university student and began volunteering, I found myself often having to take the initiative, and I think that being able to adapt to the situation even when going on an internship is what helped me grow as a person through my many volunteer experiences.

What would you say to other students who are undecided about whether to participate in volunteer work?

Tanaka:

I think it's a good idea to experience a variety of things while you're a student!

Tomitsuru:

Kansai International University has an environment that allows you to do a variety of volunteer work, and if you ask your professors, they will introduce you to volunteer work that is suitable for you, so be sure to check it out!

Mr. Horie:

I think it's a good idea to participate in as many volunteer activities as possible, in order to gain social experience!

It will be soothing for children and I think it will be easy for them to participate, so please give it a try!

3 people:

Please come to "Donuts"!!

Thank you to Tomitsuru, Tanaka, and Horie for your cooperation!
