Faculty of Psychology1In the fall semester course "Basic Seminar" for second-year students, the common theme for all grade levels is "ensuring the safety of children's routes to school." At the beginning of the semester, students4We started group work by dividing into four areas.
- Identifying dangerous areas on school routes and disseminating information
- Daily monitoring activities
- Effective crime prevention education
- Traffic problems
First, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's handbook (2021Year) and school safety plan (2017), Traffic Safety White Paper (2025They uncovered the problem based on public documents such as the 2015 Survey on School Safety and Education (SHS) and other sources. They also walked the actual school route themselves to check for any dangerous spots, and came up with concrete countermeasures.
As part of this,2025Years12Month23Students from Teramura and Nakayama seminars33100 people visited Ikuta Police Station. Female police officers from the Community Safety Division and Traffic Division spoke about efforts to protect the safety of elementary school students.1I attended lectures for hours and deepened my professional knowledge.

Student impressions and comments
After the tour, students gave positive comments about their practical training and future presentations.
- The importance of creating a good environment: We learned that traffic accidents involving children are not just the result of individual carelessness, but are also deeply connected to the road environment and the local monitoring system. In our presentation assignment, we would like to propose the importance of environmental improvement by the government and local communities.
- Blind spot of "living area": I agree with the explanation that many accidents occur within the area where children live, as their range of movement is limited. I feel that it is essential not only to warn children, who have a narrow perspective, but also to raise awareness among the adults around them.
- Crime location characteristics: I was surprised to learn that public restrooms and parks are common crime locations. I realized that public restrooms, in particular, have poor visibility, making them ideal locations for criminals. I also learned the importance of crime prevention activities for families, taking into consideration the low visibility of children.
- Practical crime prevention education: We would like to consider specific ways for children to appropriately refuse when approached by a suspicious person and include this in the materials used to announce the results.
- Promoting "multitasking": It is difficult for adults to keep an eye on children when they are walking home from school or after school. This has made me keenly aware of the importance of not only discussing the issue at home, but also creating a system that strengthens "multitasking" throughout the community.
- Compliance with rules and responsibilities: Approximately 10,000 people in Hyogo Prefecture annually15I was shocked to learn that tens of thousands of traffic accidents occur in Japan. I feel that it is necessary to convey the heavy responsibility of correctly understanding and following bicycle rules.
