Our students gave a presentation on the theme of "Bonds" at the Midorigaoka Town Urban Development Promotion Conference

Reiwa8Years2Month8On Sunday, the 2019, at the Midorigaoka Town Urban Development Promotion Conference held in Midorigaoka Town, Miki City, Ririka Tanaka from the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, took the stage and gave a presentation on the themes of "bonds" and "respect for human rights" in the community.

Tanaka stated that a city that respects human rights is "a place where each person is considerate of others and can live in peace," and emphasized that in order for people with diverse views to accept each other's differences, it is important for them to have opportunities to actually interact and talk.

One example of this approach was the "Carillon" Kizuna Cafe, run by faculty and students from the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Aiming to be a "gathering place" where local residents can drop in casually, the cafe hosts lectures, health consultations, and seasonal creative activities once a month. During the activities, participants can be seen smiling and enjoying conversation, diligently taking notes on the lectures, and cherishing the artwork they create to take home. It was reported that such interactions have a positive impact on the lives of residents, such as promoting healthy lifestyles and providing enjoyment for them after returning home.

Tanaka himself said that through this activity he has learned important values and new ways of looking at things from the local residents, who are his "seniors in life." In concluding his presentation, he said, "Getting to know each other through conversation and thinking from the other person's perspective leads to consideration and respect," and expressed the view that having a place for local interaction will lead to the creation of a community where everyone can freely participate in society and live in peace.

Going forward, through activities such as the Kizuna Cafe "Carillon," our university will continue to contribute to creating a city where students can have deep connections with the local community and support each other.
