Global Communication Students Conduct PBL with Local Community
This past autumn, as part of the Global Communications Department's Global Research curriculum, a couple dozen students were given the opportunity to carry out Project-Based Learning (PBL) with local community partners. While many Global Communications/Global Studies students carry-out semester-long study abroad experiences at partner institutions in Asia, Europe and North America, other students can learn about the world through direct community service projects in the Kobe area.

Such classes are a central part of KUISs' education. The University believes in the transformative value of experiential learning wherein students do not learn just by academic activity, but also by engaging with real world situations and problems. This past semester, Global Research students were asked to work on projects related to the theme of Japan's increasing social diversity. Projects included working with local elementary schools with diverse student populations, preparing for natural disasters in an increasingly diverse community, and collaborating with a local immigrant community group.
