【Gコミ学科】How Eye Contact Can Contribute to a Successful Presentation

Eye-Contact.jpg

Eye contact is everything in public speaking in person and online (Ravinal, 2023). It's one of the characteristics of effective public speakers. This is what our second year students studied the whole week last week - the importance of eye contact in making a successful presentation.

Stafford (2012) argues that except for words, eye contact is the most important link between a speaker and the audience.A speaker can communicate with eye contact and at the same time understand how the audience feels about the presentation.

Stafford (2012) suggests the following to achieve an effective eye contact:

  1. Make eye contact before speaking
  2. Speak only while facing the audience
  3. Look at several people in the audience
  4. Make eye contact with people in different parts of the room
  5. Hold eye contact for a few seconds

Students had to choose one from among the list of topics for their presentation.

  1. What is something about your hometown that is part of history?
  2. Does anyone famous come from your hometown?
  3. What does your hometown produce or grow?
  4. What is the scenery like in your hometown?
  5. What is the best thing about your hometown?
  6. What is the worst thing about your hometown?
  7. What is there to do in your hometown?
  8. What are the main businesses in your hometown?
  9. Has your family lived in your hometown a long time?
  10. Do you wish your hometown would be world famous?
