Purpose of the course: This course aims to develop students' English skills and knowledge in in-flight communication as well as ground handling to become an effective member of the airline industry.

On Wednesday, 12th of July 2023, an online collaboration was held as part of the final activity of the FLE307-Y01 Airline Practical English Ⅰ. It was led by Professor Liane Faye Andrade. 7 third year tourism students (5 Japanese and 2 Vietnamese) together with 2 exchange students from South Korea participated in the Q&A session and discussion.

In the online collaboration event, 2 guest speakers were invited to share tips and stories as to how they go about the airline industry. They are Ms. Koby Gayl Tay, a cabin attendant who works with a prestigious airline in the middle east for 8 years and Mr. Wayne Yves Andrade who works with one of the oldest airlines in middle east for nearly 4 years.

"Customer-related skill is one of the most important skills to have as a cabin attendant. It will ensure a successful flight."-Ms. Koby Gayl Tay

"A successful flight for me is when passengers disembark happy." she added.

"One of the most important skills when it comes to ground handling is communication skills. Relaying information is one of the most critical sides of it. It must be precise and accurate because wrong information can be harmful to the passengers, the crew and the aircraft itself." -Mr. Wayne Yves Andrade

The program began with welcome remarks, then followed by students' introduction and guest speakers' introduction. The program proper includes Q&A session and discussion and it ended with a message from the two guest speakers.

Students feedback

"What I love about a flight attendant's job is the ability to meet and interact with people from all over the world. They can help create a memorable flying experience for passengers and contribute to international travel and exchanges." (Nguyen Hoang Hao, 3rd year Tourism student)

"According to them, benefits are solid in airlines. For example, the airfare is free and discounted

But on the other hand, they said that there are many difficulties. It's a job that so many people long for, but I realized once again that there are many difficulties behind the scenes.

After listening to their stories, I wanted to get a job in the airline industry again. And I wanted to do my best to get a job." (Sarikawa Ayumi, 3rd year Tourism student)

"I thought it was cool because I thought I liked and respected this job enough to take into account the big risk. There were various questions in the class, and thank you for letting me know in detail. I had a good experience because I was able to talk to the people in the field. Thank you." (Choi Rayun, 3rd year Exchange student)

"I think working in the airline industry means that sometimes it's hard and requires physical strength. However, I think it would be good to work in the airline industry if I can communicate with people from many countries, see the smiles of customers who used it, and say thank you." (Tanigaki Kokoro, 3rd year Tourism student)
